Sabina Memišević


Sabina Memišević je rođena u Sarajevu. Završila je prvi ciklus studiranja na Prirodno-matematičkom fakultetu, Odsjeku za biologiju.  Nakon završetka drugog ciklusa studiranja na istom fakultetu dobila je titulu magistar biologije, usmjerenje mikrobiologija  i proglašena je kao najbolji student generacije za 2011. godinu gdje je dobila priznanje Zlatna značka Univerziteta u Sarajevu. Izražen interes za nauku i istraživanje joj je omogućio da učestvuje na internacionalnoj konferenciji u vidu poster prezentacije kao i da objavi rad u indeksiranom inostranom časopisu. Slijedeći korak u profesionalom životu je sticanje što većeg iskustva radom u struci u mikrobiološkim laboratorijama ili u okviru kvalitetnih projekata na polju biologije ili ekologije. Aktivan je član udruženja građana Giro di Sarajevo koje nastoji učiniti Sarajevo biciklistički nastrojenim gradom i kada ima priliku rado učestvuje u humanitarnim akcijama.

ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF ESSENTIAL OIL FROM SATUREJA MONTANA L. AGAINST CLINICAL ISOLATES OF PSEUDOMONAS AERUGINOSA

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen and usually causes nosocomial infections. Cases of resistance of this bacterium to antibiotics are in the increase. One of the solutions to this medical problem is use of essential oils which have been recognized to have considerable antibacterial effects. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antibacterial acitivity of essential oil from Satureja montana L. against clinical isolates and reference strain of P. aeruginosa ATCC 27853. Essential oil was obtained by a commercial source (Oshadhi, Germany)m and the GC/MS analysis identified carvacol (55,21%) and thymol (5,88%) as main constituents. In vitroantimicrobial activity of essential oil against P. aeruginosa was tested by disk diffusion method. The essential oil of Satureja montana L. expressed significant inhibitory effects on P. aeruginosa isolates with rates of inhibitory zones ranging from 11-30mm, and average value of inhibitory zones of 22mm. These promising results suggest the potential use of Satureja montana L. essential oil as an alternative agent in future treatment of P. aeruginosa infections.

BACTERIAL CONTAMINATION OF PUBLIC TELEPHONES IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA OF SARAJEVO

Public telephones are handled by many people and can serve as vehicle of disease transmission.  Our study involved the microbiological analysis of public telephones. We analysed 60 telephones from the downtown area of Sarajevo and they were all positive for bacterial contamination. The analysis used microbiological, biochemical and serological methods. More Gram-positive than Gram-negative bacteria were isolated, and the most common bacteria were Staphylococcus epidermidis. Beside this, we also found pathogenic and opportunistic bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The hygiene of the environmental surfaces and public objects is to be considered as various opportunistic bacterial pathogens were isolated.
